Event Description

Donizetti was born into poverty in Bergamo Italy, He was spotted as a choral talent and received a fine musical education. After writing sacred music he concentrated on Opera. He worked constantly and left a legacy of 70 works many of which play in Opera Houses today. Duncan will be discussing and promoting his fifth and latest play, “The Maestro: The Life and Music of Donizetti.” with live excerpts from Donizetti’s most popular works. The play’s performances have been developed in conjunction with Michael Wells. It will be performed in three venues at the Brighton Festival in May 2022. A summer tour is also planned. Duncan has lived and worked in Brighton for 40 years. His interests are Business, Writing. Books and Plays. In his Business career he was President at AMEX, Managing Director at L and G, and CEO of Pearl Assurance, but he has always written.... be it Poetry in the 60s featured in the Corgi Anthology of Modern Poetry or on Anglo Saxon issues for the Societies Journal. In retirement he is now a Film and Theatre producer and author and will be talking about that profession and promoting his fifth and latest play, “The Maestro: The Life and Music of Donizetti.” He has attended Whiteway Centre classes in the past.
