Course Description
The course asks students to examine and understand their own daily lives in order to understand the lives of other people in other places. Learning takes place through lively discussion as we unpick anthropological perspectives using students’ own personal observations and thoughts. The course brings anthropological perspectives into our own everyday situations, including our encounters with practices, story-telling, memory, identity, others, bodies, senses, material culture, species, and transcendence. Along the way, the tutor’s own research experiences (on coffee, ethics, violence, drugs, security and weapons) are used to help illustrate the learning.
